Maaya is a geography learning app. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what's needed to run the app and make it better, we don't show ads, and we don't sell your data.
You can sign in with Google or Apple. When you do, we receive basic account information from that provider, including your name, email address, and a unique account ID. Instead of displaying your real name, we generate a playful display name for you. If you use Apple's "Hide My Email," we only see the private relay address. You can also play without creating an account, in which case an anonymous identifier is used instead.
We ask for your age when you start, and store only a birth year. Maaya is not available to children under 13. If you tell us you're under 13, the app stops there and no account or learning data is kept.
To make the app work (adapting question difficulty, tracking streaks, awarding stamps), we store your gameplay: which questions you answered and how, your progress through chapters, your difficulty level, streaks, and collected stamps, along with any feedback notes you submit about questions.
When you ask Maaya (our in-app helper) a question, your message and relevant lesson context are sent to Google's Gemini API to generate a reply, and your chat history is stored with your account so you can revisit it.
We collect app-usage events (screens viewed, features used, time in app) through PostHog, and crash/error diagnostics through Sentry. These help us find bugs and understand what to improve. Analytics are only tied to your account identity after you've signed in.
Maaya runs on a small set of service providers, each receiving only what's needed for their job:
Data is processed on servers located primarily in the United States.
Maaya is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. The app asks for age up front and does not allow use below 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used Maaya, contact us and we'll delete any associated data.
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Profile → Delete account, which permanently erases your account, learning history, streaks, stamps, chats, and your analytics identity. You can also email us and we'll do it for you.
All communication between the app and our servers uses encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), and access to production data is restricted.
If we make meaningful changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
